On April 18, 2022, at the initiative of Professor Vasyl Ilnytskyi, an online meeting of Ukrainian historians took place, who discussed important problems of the research of the modern Russian-Ukrainian war. The meeting was attended by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Mykola Lytvyn (Institute of Ukrainian Studies named after I. Krypyakevych of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine), Doctor of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Volodymyr Starka (Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatyuk National Pedagogical University), Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor Vasyl Gulai (Lviv Polytechnic National University), Doctor of History, Professors Oksana Kalischuk and Lyudmila Strilchuk (Lesia Ukrainka National University of Volyn), Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Lyubomyr Khahula (Lviv Historical Museum ), Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Vasyl Ilnytskyi and Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Mykola Galiv ( Drohobych Ivan Franko State Pedagogical University). The scientists identified the most relevant areas of the research in the Russian-Ukrainian war, which has been ongoing since 2014, pointed out the need to deploy comparative-historical, military-political, and humanitarian studies, to clarify various aspects of the everyday life of Ukrainians, the impact of the information war on Ukrainian society, etc. As a result, the historians agreed to establish the intellectual-patriotic initiative “The Russian-Ukrainian War: Historical Sources and Humanitarian Challenges”, to attract scholars from various fields to conduct comprehensive, systematic scientific research, prepare monographic studies, and form scientific research projects.
